Director Troy Niemans got his start with the Tarantino/Rodriquez-produced film ‘From Dusk til Dawn II’, shot in Cape Town, South Africa. The director of this film, Scott Spiegel gave Niemans the opportunity to mentor Scott and the producers on the project, as well as offer him the credited role of ‘Male Porno Star’. While in Cape Town, Niemans showed LA-based producer Michael Murphey (producer on From Dusk til Dawn II & III, Nightmare on Elm Street, more) a black and white short horror film he had recently completed. Impressed, Murphey invited Niemans to edit his next film in LA, ‘The Last Best Sunday’, which was the directorial debut of Happy Days alum Donny Most. Niemans edited and co-produced the film and it went on to win several festival awards and gain distribution.

From there Niemans spent six years in Los Angeles, and has since completed projects in Mexico, Spain, India, and across the US, editing feature films, trailers, and music videos, all the while working with and learning from seasoned talents from around the world.

Now Niemans brings this experience home. The native Albertan brings narrative skill and a strong editing background to directing his music videos. The first video he produced/directed (with a grant from MuchFact) entitled ‘Say Goodbye’ was nominated for several awards, including Best Music Video, Best Director and Best Editor at the 2009 Alberta Film Awards. At the 2010 awards, two videos he produced/directed were nominated for awards: ‘The End’, for Best Music Video, and ‘Stain’, for Best Visual Effects. In 2010 Niemans shot, produced, directed and edited his first country music video, for The Northern Pikes frontman Jay Semko. This video for ‘Comeback Kid’ was well received and added to rotation on CMT.

Niemans has subsequently shot, directed, produced and edited videos for Six West (‘I Will Wait’), 2010 CCMA Female Artist of the Year, Victoria Banks (‘I’m Gone’), Matt Andersen (‘Fired Up’), and Codie Prevost (‘Honky Tonk Groupie’), all 4 of which are currently spinning on CMT.
